Mr. Townsend is a California Certified Public Accountant and a partner with VTD. Over the past fourteen years he has focused his practice within the governmental accounting, auditing and advisory arena. Primary service areas are to K-12 school districts and county offices of education as well as charter schools.
With the growing scrutiny of the use of federal and state dollars in the programs and services of educational entities, Mr. Townsend has been recognized for his expertise in Single Audit compliance requirements and the requirements set forth in OMB Circular A-133. The addition of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has placed a higher standard for transparency and accountability for agencies receiving these funds and the expending them within the stated guidelines. Mr. Townsend has been at the forefront of the industry in providing training to our clients on the reporting and accounting compliance requirements.
As a trainer, Mr. Townsend is a recognized speaker with the CalCPA Education Foundation School District Conference; and the CASBO annual conference speaking on topics including compliance, updates on government accounting standards and internal control. Workshops currently being provided to our clients under Mr. Townsend’s direction include Associated Student Body Fund accounting, attendance compliance and accounting and internal control best practices.
Mr. Townsend is also one of the primary speakers for our in-house training on a variety of topics all related to K-12 school district accounting and auditing.
Mr. Townsend is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA) and the California Association of School Business Officials (CASBO).
