Ms. Larson is a partner with VTD who provides managerial consulting and advisory services to entities throughout California. Her primary area of expertise is with county offices of education, K-12 school districts and community colleges. The goal of VTD’s advisory services is to assist in the delivery of clear, transparent and compliant business services within the governmental industry framework.
Prior to joining VTD, Ms. Larson developed her business services background with direct experience as a business manager within a K-12 school district. This perspective permeates her services to clients as she understands the constraints that are faced within the budgetary limitations of an education entity. This experience has directly enabled her to be of assistance to fiscally challenged entities and help them regain a positive financial condition.
Ms. Larson has developed individualized workshops and staff training for clients with an emphasis on clarity and accountability of the financial resources under the control of a district. Specific workshops have included cash flow projections, budget development, categorical program compliance and accounting, developing multi-year projections and financial reporting. These workshops, while adhering to standard of the California School Accounting Manual guidelines and governmental accounting standards, are developed with the unique business perspective of each district.
In addition to the staff training, Ms. Larson has conducted detailed management reviews of business office practices with an eye for efficient and effective use of resources.
Ms. Larson has participated and assisted in the preparation for collective bargaining at-table negotiations, fact finding and the subsequent AB 1200/2756 required disclosures.
Ms. Larson is currently an instructor for the Chief Business Officials Certification Program at the University of California, Riverside. She has previously taught for the Academy of California School Administrators’ School of Business Managers Academy at Pepperdine University and is a frequent speaker for the California Association of School Business Officials Workshop Series.
Ms. Larson also lends her expertise in the ongoing training of VTD staff. Her perspective provides the bridge between audit requirements and real world applications.
